my values
-
empowering
I take a humanist and person-centered approach to counselling that focuses on collaboration.
I want clients to feel empowered, and have agency and autonomy over their lives.
-
Social justice
I am aware of social inequities and systemic oppression. I understand and acknowledge the power dynamics within the mental health field.
Many people would have improved wellbeing with free and accessible healthcare, livable wages, stable housing, secure attachments and supportive community.
-
ethical
I align with PACFAs ethical standards for clinical practice including: putting clients first, working to high professional standards, building a relationship of trust, respecting diversity, confidentiality and professional boundaries and working ethically with colleagues.
-
flexible
I started Market Street Counselling because I value flexibility. This can mean I’m not available all the time.
I extend this flexibility to clients around my policies and providing multiple entry points for accessing services.
-
reflective
I continuously reflect critically on my practice and commit to lifelong learning.
My Approach
-

Trauma Informed Practice
Trauma informed practice acknowledges that trauma is common. As an approach it is holistic, empowering, strengths-focused, collaborative and reflective and promotes safety.
-

Integrative
Integrative counselling encompasses the whole person, taking into account individual mental, physical and emotional needs. It draws on techniques and understandings from a variety of modalities to create an individual approach for each person.
-

Interpersonal Process
An integrative and relational approach which focuses on the therapeutic relationship formed in counselling as a means for understanding and change.
-

critical and ecological
Considers the impacts of socio-economic, cultural and contextual factors on peoples lives and the social determinants of wellbeing. Understands that individual wellbeing is predicated on that of the family, community and societal conditions.
