couples counselling
Every relationship goes through difficult times.
Sometimes there are external stressors - life transitions like new jobs, retirement, loss of jobs; becoming parents, navigating parenting during teenage years or young adults children leaving home; or the blending of two families.
Other difficulties include internal stress like trust issues, diverging values or parenting styles, communication breakdowns.
Even wider issues like cost of living pressures can impact our relationships.
Couples counselling provides a supportive space to work through these difficulties by helping to reduce conflict and improve communication skills.
Sometimes we unknowingly bring into our relationship the experiences and ways of communicating from previous relationships or from our childhood family. Our partners can also unknowingly bring up feelings and ways of coping from when we were younger.
By exploring and gaining better understanding of our relationship and communication dynamics through an attachment-based and family systems lens, these can be explored together to provide couples with greater understanding of each others needs, and in turn increase emotional intimacy.
At Market Street Counselling we also have Saturday appointments available to provide an opportunity for couples to attend counselling outside of work hours. Couples counselling is currently $130 for 50 min session.
